Our History

CARL HANKINS, INC. has been in business since July 1972. We are a State of Florida licensed Underground Utility & Excavation Contractor and Electrical Contractor.

Original operations took place out of the home of Carl and Pansy Hankins until 1974 when they purchased the first official office building on Benjamin Road in Tampa. Over the years we have had offices in various parts of the eastern region: Jacksonville and Panama City, Florida; Savannah, Baxley, and Atlanta, Georgia; Alvin, Texas; and Montpelier, Vermont. For the last 15 years we have concentrated our efforts locally with all operations out of our corporate office in Tampa, Florida.

Our underground utility customer base has included, but not limited to, BellSouth Telecommunications, Tampa Electric Company, Verizon, City of Jacksonville Beach, Polk County, Hillsborough County Water Resource Department, Pinellas County School Board, City of Tarpon Springs, Pasco County, City of Tampa.

Purchasing an electrical company in 1998 allowed us to add an electrical division to our family, which is CARL HANKINS, INC. dba SHEPPARD ELECTRICAL SERVICES. This division of our organization includes three (3) departments: Service, Commercial/Industrial, and Residential. Customers include bay area home owners, local businesses, Hillsborough County, Pinellas County Schools, Florida Highway Patrol, General Contractors, and many more.

Our fleet of equipment includes over 40 vehicles of various sizes, trenchers, bucket truck, crane truck, auger truck, backhoes, directional boring machines, jack and boring machine, and various other pieces of equipment. Put us to work for you!
